A Pursuit of Excellence:
A Challenge to Fulfill"

About Alpha Chi

Since March 3, 1951, Alpha Chi Chapter’s chartering date, the chapter has been continuously engaged in promoting the motto of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., which is “to promote the highest ideals in the teaching profession,” channeled through our Y.E.S. program.

The Y.E.S. (Youth, Education, Service) program guides us in providing educational opportunities such as workshops for teacher development and mentoring, as well as parent workshops on the contemporary trends in education. Alpha Chi Chapter annually, provides workshops for our adopted school, as well as other schools in the Portsmouth Public School System on statewide instructional initiatives.

We participate in annual service projects and support our local community service projects such as the H.E.R. Shelter, books for schools, Thanksgiving baskets and Christmas toys.

Each year, Alpha Chi Chapter awards a $1000 scholarship to a qualifying male or female graduating senior who is pursuing a career in education. A book scholarship is also provided for members’ children.
